USPTO Will Remove Paper Collection of Registered Word Marks

In a Notice appearing in today's Federal Register (link), pp. 9932-33, the USPTO announced that it will microfilm and remove the paper search collection of registered marks consisting only of words. Removal shall begin within 60 days. The microfilm collection will be available in the PTO's Public Search Facility in Alexandria, Virginia.

TTABlog comments: A tip of the fedora to K.D., who, despite being a Cubs fan, always knows the score.

I have a question, however. What about marks that are in standard character form but are not "word" marks? Like initialisms or other letter strings. Should the notice have referred to "standard character" marks rather than "word" marks?
